RENOVATIONS TO AN ICONIC RESORT

The legendary Hotel Del Coronado has welcomed discerning travelers for more than 130 years who want to experience Southern California coastal lifestyle at its best. The design intent for the hotel’s renovation was to provide a modern interpretation of the past and maintain the hotel’s legacy as a standard-bearer for luxury hospitality.

AOA provided design and project management support for the Ocean 1500 Restaurant and Serẽa restaurant renovations, the sun deck, the pool deck, and Babcock & Story Bar. AOA directed project management for the spa and fitness center renovation, as well as design and project management assistance for the Victorian front porch, meeting rooms, ballrooms, lobby, courtyard, and Grande Hall renovations. AOA’s procurement department originated with the successful management of FF&E and OS&E needs for the Hotel Del Coronado.

The original structures in this Victorian building were made entirely out of wood. With years of tacked-on renovations, it was an incredible undertaking for the team to understand the property’s existing conditions and make important design decisions that were sensitive to the past while celebrating the future. Overall, AOA’s contributions included project management, owner’s representation support, design management, interior design, quality assurance, quality control, estimation, and FF&E procurement.
